Happy 4th

I hope you all had a great 4th of July, cuz I sure did. Nothing celebrates our country more than lots of sun, beer, fireworks and food! The above picture is a view of the beach and the OB peir from our friend's apartment where we were BBQ-ing. From there, we walked all over OB going to see different people all day.

We went to one party that was having bands play all day (I wish I had a picture of that), and the ones we saw were a punk rock band and then a kind of hip-hop folk band. They were so different, but both so great. From there we headed back to BBQ and eat lots of meat... mmmm... before we headed down to the beach to take a dip in the water. I'm not usually the kind of person that spends a lot of time in the ocean, but that day it felt great until I got a bunch of salt water up my nose.

Then we walked back up to our friends place and ate some more before going back down to the beach to see a couple groups of friends. Somewhere in there I went in the water again, and got more water up my nose, but it was worth it. After the sand cooled off a bit, we were able to get a volleyball court and play a couple games. I know I would have kicked butt if I was a little less inebriated.

By this time it was almost 7:30pm, so we headed back up to BBQ some more before going back down to watch the fireworks at 9pm. They were a bit disappointing this year, but what can you do. We made sure to get off the beach right after the fireworks were done because every year there is a giant marshmallow fight on the beach and everyone gets pelted by marshmallows. If you think a marshmallow can't hurt that much, think again. I had already gotten stung by a bee that day, so I wasn't in the mood for any more pain. So we went back up to our friend's pad, had a couple more beers and then started our 5 block walk home. We were in bed by midnight, but the next morning my body was hurting from all the walking around. So what could we do but go out to breakfast and then hit the beach again the next day? The beach was pretty much deserted though, which was nice. Of course I was lucky enough to step in a left behind sandy marshmallow.

All in all it was a great weekend... I had from Friday to Wednesday off from school, so I was able to have a little mini-vacation before the home stretch of this trimester which ends in finals and my year-end exams. I'm so sad the weekend is over.

Kick Pickler

OH MY GOD... how awful was Kellie Pickler last night?? And how horribly ditzy! If she doesn't get voted off tonight, I will scream! (I got the image off of a myspace groups thread... which is hysterical, btw.)
I still love Taylor and Chris the best though. Taylor just makes me smile every time he's up there, and Chris has the most amazing natural talent.
Anyway... guess what I did yesterday?? I planted an herb garden! I've been wanting one for so long, and I finally did it. I got three varieties of tomatoes (not an herb, I know), one bell pepper plant, two strawberry plants, basil, oregano, and rosemary. I should have gotten lavender, but want to go back to Home Depot to get a praying mantis to eat up aphids. I saw that yesterday and I thought it was so cool that you could just buy a praying mantis. I can't wait until the tomatoes and strawberries start coming in... yum! I'll have to take a picture later when the sun hits the garden.
Oh! Thanks for the support everyone gave me on my fast! I did pretty well... it actually wasn't quite as hard as I thought it would be, and I lost 5 lbs, too! Of course, I didn't do it for the purpose to lose weight, but it sure is a nice little bonus. I actually felt pretty good on the last day, and my skin cleared up really well, which is amazing considering I just started my period!
I have been getting some knitting done on ms Diamonique... but progress is slow going. Maybe I'll take a pic later. I got some done last night while watching the Res Sox kick some ass again. They are on a roll, and when Manny gets hot (and you know he will), watch out!

Top Reasons to Watch

Bode Miller... not only is he a hottie, he's from New Hampshire, in the town next door to where my aunt & uncle live!
Italy's Giorgio Rocca... its too bad they're wearing helmets and goggles while they're skiing.

Jeremy Bloom, freestyle skiier, has "dabbled" in modeling, and not only is in the Olympics, but will probably be in the NFL, too (incase you need a reason to watch football besides Tom Brady).

Seth Wescott, from Maine, who won gold last night in snowboard cross.
And of course, Apolo Anton Ohno
Who's your favorite??

Too much fun

Well, between my boyfriend's work party, a girlfriend's 30th birthday party, and watching the Chargers beat Indy yesterday, my liver is in a sorry state! So I won't be writing much today, because I must get knitting!

I'm so full...

Oh, how I love Thanksgiving. It is my favorite holiday, for sure. I stayed home with the BF, and we cooked a turkey, some mashed potatoes, buttercup squash, and a couple pumpkin pies. MMMMmmmm. I also make some Faux Kir Royales. Since I seem to have some kind of reaction to champagne (I vomit a LOT the next day), I mixed up sauvignon blanc, creme de cassis, and sparkling water instead. Yummy! medium_kir.jpegI also worked on a christmas present yesterday, but I can't show it yet. But I can show you the cool little ornaments I made! I got the idea from a Craftster thread. Have I mentioned that I love Craftster? I think I'll go get some more beads today to make other colors.medium_ornament.jpeg

Weekends are fun

I had such a good weekend. Well, actually I had such a great Saturday... I spent most of Sunday recovering from Saturday night's libations. We had our monthly Stitch n Bitch (SNB) at Louella's house, and there was a great turnout. One of these days I'll have to take pictures... maybe the next SNB, cuz we're doing a gift exchange! That will be soo much fun.
After that, Lisa and Louella had a candle party at a little candle shop in South Park called Clarity, which happens to be right next door to the Grove... the best LYS around. After the party, we migrated to Ray at Night, which is one huge art show. A bunch of galleries on one street open up on the Second Saturday of every month (which always coincides with SNB!). This month, there was a beautiful portrait of my friend Lisa, wearing nothing but a sheet. It turned out great. There was also a work that she commissioned by Nathan Phelps. I love his stuff... he does amazing things with vinyl.
After that, we moved over to Cafe Calabria, where I got the biggest glass of wine I have ever had at a bar. There was more art there, as well as a guitarist and even a collection of ceramic jewelry. Its a good thing I don't have uch money to spend right now cuz I could have spent a lot more that night!
All in all I had a great night. I really have to get out more often. I have this habit of being a homebody, especially in the colder months (not that it gets that cold in San Diego).

Jagerblasters!

Thanks to everyone who gave me birthday wishes! I actually had a pretty good birthday. I had to go to two classes that day, but after my night class, I went out with a few friends to a restaurant/bar in Hillcrest. i was convinced I was only going to have a couple drinks and then go home, because I was pretty tired, and still slightly hungover from the previous night, when James took me out to dinner. Of course, after I had my two drinks, my friend Lisa decides to get us all shots of Jagermeister. How could I refuse?? As it turns out, there were two other chicks there who also had birthdays that day, and then they bought us shots of Jagerblasters (I'm not sure whats in those, but it tastes good), and I had another shot of Tuaca, and then more Jagerblasters. So, at this point I'm totally hammered. Then there was a drag show going on there, and she (he) was rambling on in Spanish about something, but I don't know enough Spanish (especially in the state I was in) to know what the hell she (he) was talking about. Yet my friends pushed me up there anyway, and she (he) was talking to me and I had no clue what she (he) was saying. Then it gets a little fuzzy... I vaguely remember dancing with the chicks who had birthdays, and giving some Yankee fan a hard time, and other stuff that I won't mention. Next thing I remember is coming home and waking up James because there was a thunder and lightning storm going on. Now, San Diego NEVER gets thunderstorms. I've lived here 5 years, and seen a little lightning from the distance a couple times, but NEVER a real bona-fide thunderstorm. There was lightning all over the place, and big booms of thunder that rattled the windows. I just stood outside with one of my neighbors for a while just watching the lightning, and rambling on about how cool it was to get a storm like that on my 30th birthday. So, I had a good night, even though I paid for it the next day.
This week was the premire of a couple of my favorite shows, Nip/Tuck and Lost. I didn't really start to follow Lost until the end of last season, so I'm a little confused, but I think its a great show. There aren't many shows lately where I am watching and thinking "whats going to happen next?" so, does Jack know the guy down in the hatch? And why on earth is he down there?? such a cool show.
Oh, and I actually have a finished object, too!! I finished the Vogue cardigan!! It came out pretty good, too. I will take pics later to show everyone. Since I got mostly money for my birthday, I think I might go yarn shopping today, for a new project. I am going to start my x-mas presents! The first one will be theAibhlinn, (pronounced "Ave- leen") cowl for my mom. I'm not sure about anything else, yet.
Allright, its time to get my lazy butt in the shower!

You were a little girl in the 70's if...

a girlfriend emailed me this... it will give you a good laugh!

YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S IF...

1. You wore a rainbow shirt that was half-sleeves, and the rainbow went up one sleeve, across your chest, and down the other. (I also had rainbow striped leg warmers!)
2. You made baby chocolate cakes in your Easy Bake Oven and washed them down with snow cones from your Snoopy Snow Cone Machine.
3. You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked.
4. You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flowers on it.
5. You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels.
6. You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute (admit it!)
7. You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island.
8. You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days.
9. You had either a "bowl cut" or "pixie," not to mention the "Dorothy Hamil" because your Mom was sick of braiding your hair.
10. People sometimes thought you were a boy.
11. Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession.
12. You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers.
13. You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon.
14. You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits.
15. You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze.
16. The swing set tipped over at least once.
17. You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
18. You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals.
19. You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture; and you despised Nellie Olson!
20. You wanted your first kiss to be at a roller rink.
21. Your hairstyle was described as having "wings"or "feathers" and you kept it "pretty" with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
22. You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
23. You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
24. You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend.
25. Every now and then "It's a Hard Knock Life" from the movie, "Annie" will pop into your brain and you can't stop singing it the whole day.
26. YOU had Star Wars action figures, too!
27. It was a big event in your household each year when the "Wizard of Oz" would come on TV. Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags!
28. You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question:"Who will I marry. Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or Rick Springfield?"
29. You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever albums.
30. You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage, or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. Pot holders - I believe they were called "loom loopers"
31. You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
32. You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.
33. You couldn't wait to get the free animal poster that came when you ordered books from the Weekly Reader book club. Double score if it was a teddy bear dressed in clothing.
34. You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.
35. You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics.
36. You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with heart or rainbow designs.
37. You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer.
38. You had a Big Wheel with a brake on the side, and a Sit-n-Spin.
39. You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat. You spent all your allowance on smurfs and stickers for your
sticker album!
40. You LOVED unicorns, and may have believed they existed.

May SNB

Yesterday we had our monthly SNB session. It seemed like nobody was really all that into knitting, mostly because it was so fricken hot outside, and some people (won't mention any names...) were a bit hungover. So, leave it to me to be the only one drinking. I brought a big bottle of sauvignon blanc, and only had a couple glasses, so I took it home with me. Is that rude?? I know its a faux pas to bring alcohol to a party and not leave it there, but I was the only one drinking, and I'm really broke, and didn't want to leave a nearly full bottle of wine in their fridge. If it were a smaller bottle I wouldn't have cared so much. Oh well. I'm an idiot.
I swear that sometimes I am so socially inept.
Well, I did get quite a bit done on the BBBB. Hopefully I can get it done before the baby shower at the end of June. I did realize that this will take a while if I don't work on it every day. I also finally shared my blog with everyone. I think they all thought I have a little too much time on my hands. Blogging has certainly become another hobby for me! Everyone seemed impressed with the Mandarin Jacket, though.
Oh, and check out my new little button that I made (in the left column)! Please feel free to use it, but just upload to your own server and all that crap.
